My heart is heavy because I know someone I love and so used to seeing all the time won't be there. Ms. Rivera you were a beautiful person inside and out. A strong independent woman with a heart of gold. You were very good to my family & I. I will hold my memories of you close to my heart. I can see you gardening in your oversized hat, sitting on a 5 gallon bucket for hours pulling weeds. Your red "I Love Lucy" hair, the monkey blood stains on my leg, Huntsville Park Easters, my guaranteed Thanksgiving plate, warm capilotada, sugared water to calm me in a thunderstorm, my mom & you standing at the fence talking til dark, and you doing the sign of the cross as I would drive away. It warmed my heart to see all of your family at your house yesterday. Laughter filled the air, memories were shared, and kiddos running around. Just like it used to be, just like you always wanted it. I adore you. It was a pleasure knowing you and having you in my life. Thank you for always being there. You will sorely be missed. This is not goodbye, but a see you later. My mom has good company now... pan de dulce, coffee, and good conversation. You ladies have a lot of catching up to do. ;)

Some say we are what we leave in this life. I look around this room and I see people that have worked hard and loved even harder. They each have their own unique sets of strengths and weaknesses. Like any family-they do not always see eye to eye. They are individuals and yet there is a unifying truth about this group-about our family. We breath, we exist because of my Grandmother, who maintained an ope-door policy for as long as I can remember. Our Matriarch has left us but not in spirit.
